America first met Dick Cavett in 1968 when he became the host of a morning talk show. Eventually ABC gave him his own late night program called The Dick Cavett Show, which won him three Emmys and aired on ABC from 1968 to 1975, then on PBS from 1977 to 1982. He was nominated for his eleventh Emmy Award in 2012 for the HBO comedy special Mel Brooks and Dick Cavett Together Again. He has made many appearances on TV and made his Broadway debut in 1977. In addition to his performing career he has written two books and has another one coming out at the end of this year. This book is titled Brief Encounters: Conversations, Magic Moments, and Assorted Hijinks.
